Afrata Beach

Afrata in the Municipality of Platanias is a charming beach featuring pebbles and crystal-clear waters. This small bay is located on the Rodopos peninsula, which is part of the NATURA 2000 network, highlighting its ecological significance. The beach is named after the nearby village of Afrata, situated about 1 km away. Visitors will find a snack bar, umbrellas, and sunbeds conveniently located just a few meters from the sea. The seabed is ideal for diving enthusiasts, offering an excellent underwater experience.

In the Afrata settlement, there are several taverns where visitors can enjoy food or coffee after a day at the beach. The nearby village of Kolymbari is renowned for its fish taverns, providing a delightful culinary experience.

Northwest of the beach, a path leads to the Ellinospilios cave, where prehistoric graves and other significant archaeological finds have been discovered. This trail is approximately 1.5 km long and offers easy access for visitors. On the way from Kolymbari to Afrata, one can visit the historic monastery of Panagia Odigitria, also known as Gonia Monastery, and the Orthodox Academy, both important landmarks in the island’s history.
