Agios Onoufrios

Agios Onoufrios is a charming seaside village located half a kilometer from Kounoupidiana, in the Akrotiri peninsula. The small sandy beach lies adjacent to the village’s quaint port, which now accommodates small yachts alongside local fishing boats in a bay well-protected from the winds. As the first beach on the Akrotiri peninsula encountered when traveling from Chania, it offers a peaceful retreat.

Though not as popular as other beaches on the Akrotiri peninsula today, Agios Onoufrios was once a favored holiday spot for Chania’s wealthy bourgeoisie due to its proximity to the city. The picturesque beach’s storied past is reflected in the old country houses, scattered among clusters of pine trees that stretch from the cove to the sea.

The beach is ideal for families with young children, as its shallow waters are typically calm. It has been awarded a Blue Flag, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and safety. The serene environment and gentle waves make it perfect for a relaxing day by the sea.

In addition to its natural beauty, Agios Onoufrios offers basic amenities to visitors. There are a few local taverns nearby where one can enjoy traditional Cretan cuisine, adding to the charm of this seaside village. The combination of historical significance, natural beauty, and tranquil ambiance makes Agios Onoufrios a unique destination on the Akrotiri peninsula.
