Kalamaki

A few decades ago, Kalamaki was merely a modest fishing port located 5 km west of Chania and 1 km north of the historical village in the Nea Kydonia area. Today, it has transformed into a thriving tourist resort, thanks to its charming beach of the same name. Kalamaki Beach is particularly suitable for families with young children due to its fine sand and shallow waters.

The beach is protected by a series of low rocks on the west side and an 80-meter reef just off the shore, which helps to keep the waters relatively calm and clean. This natural protection allows the water to circulate and renew easily, maintaining the beach’s cleanliness even during the peak season in August.

Kalamaki offers stunning views in all directions. To the east, visitors can admire the picturesque western beach of Agioi Apostoloi and the rugged, rocky tip of the peninsula. To the west, there is a view of Agioi Theodoroi (Thodorou) Island, and in the distance, Cape Spatha can be seen, enclosing the large Chania bay. This location is also known for its breathtaking sunsets, which can be enjoyed from the western vantage point.
