Kolymbari Beach

Kolymbari is one of the most developed areas in the Municipality of Platanias. The beach at Kolymbari is situated just a few kilometers from the village center and features gray sand, small pebbles, and crystal-clear waters.

Like many northern beaches, Kolymbari is exposed to the north winds, making the waters often choppy. The beach is well-organized, offering umbrellas and sunbeds for visitors’ convenience. Numerous fish taverns are located just above the beach, providing delicious local cuisine.

Swimmers should exercise caution as Kolymbari Beach and the surrounding area serve as nesting grounds for Caretta-Caretta sea turtles. Parts of the beach are often fenced off with special cages to protect the turtle nests.

Immediately beyond Kolymbari, the Rodopos Peninsula begins. This area is part of the Natura 2000 protection network, recognized for its exceptional landscapes and natural beauty. Visitors can also explore the historic Monastery of Gonia, the Orthodox Academy of Crete, and the Monument of the Army Cadets, dedicated to the memory of cadets who fell during the Battle of Crete. These significant landmarks are located just outside the village.

Kolymbari’s combination of natural beauty, historical significance, and modern amenities make it a compelling destination for tourists.
