Agia Marina is a coastal settlement located on the northern shore of Chania, approximately 8 km west of the city. Together with the neighboring settlements of Platanias to the west and Stalos to the east, it forms the largest tourist resort in the Chania prefecture. This area features an extensive array of tourist accommodations, restaurants, and clubs, making it a vibrant and bustling destination.
The main attraction of Agia Marina is its extensive sandy beach, which stretches for an unbroken 6 kilometers. This beach, particularly the section in Agia Marina, is fully organized with a wide range of services and amenities to cater to thousands of visitors daily. The beach has also been awarded the Blue Flag for its high standards of cleanliness and safety.
Opposite Agia Marina lies the island of Agioi Theodoroi, a prominent feature of the landscape that enhances the horizon and calms the open sea. Access to the island is restricted as it serves as a natural reserve for the protection of the Cretan wild goat, known as kri-kri. Despite this, the island provides a scenic backdrop for water sports and leisure activities. Hundreds of visitors daily approach it by pleasure boats, canoes, and water bikes from the shore, enjoying the picturesque surroundings and clear waters.
Agia Marina’s rich tourist infrastructure and beautiful natural setting make it a prime destination for both relaxation and adventure on the island of Crete.
