Glyka Nera, often listed among the top 20 most beautiful beaches in Europe by the London Times in 2003, is a stunning beach located in Southern Crete. Situated approximately 4 km west of Chora Sfakion, this beach is renowned for its fresh-water springs that emerge both underwater and along the shore, giving it the name Glyka Nera, which means “Sweet Water.”
The beach features crystal-clear waters and pebbly shores, offering a tranquil and picturesque setting. Visitors can enjoy refreshments and meals at a tavern perched on the rocks, adding to the unique charm of this beach.
Glyka Nera is accessible by boat from Chora Sfakion or Loutro. For those who prefer to hike, there are scenic paths from both Chora Sfakion and Loutro that lead to the beach. These trails provide an opportunity to experience the breathtaking landscape of Southern Crete.
