Located 14 km northeast of Chania and 1 km west of Chorafakia village in Akrotiri, Macherida is a hidden and relatively secluded beach. Nestled within a rocky cove, this small beach faces southwest, providing natural shelter from the wind and waves. The waters at Macherida are deep, turquoise, and consistently calm and clear, making it a serene spot for swimming. The beach itself is covered in fine white sand and surrounded by high rocks, adding to its secluded charm.
Macherida remains undeveloped and relatively isolated, making it a popular spot for nudists, although it is not exclusively used by them. Nearby, there is a fascinating tiny habitat in the form of a miniature pond resembling a small crater, which springs brackish water. Although this pond typically dries up during the summer months, it supports a diverse range of wildlife, including birds, water snakes, and even turtles.
The beach’s natural beauty and tranquil environment make it an ideal destination for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy a peaceful day by the sea.
