“Pachia Ammos” is the name of the second beach in Stavros, located 300 meters west of the main beach. This expansive sandy beach is notable for its generous length and width. The thick sand, true to its name “pachia ammos” (meaning “thick sand”), transitions to large rock slabs at the water’s edge, making access to the clear blue waters somewhat challenging for swimmers. The beach is exposed to the open sea, often resulting in waves, and the water depth increases abruptly.
Due to these characteristics, Pachia Ammos remains relatively uncrowded during the busy summer months, making it a haven for visitors and locals who prefer a more natural and serene environment. The beach is framed by impressive rocky hills to the east and the vast blue sea, creating a landscape of wild beauty that is both evocative and relaxing.
Near the northeastern tip of the bay, you can find the old sandstone quarries. These quarries supplied the building materials for many significant stone constructions in Chania and Akrotiri during the Venetian era, adding a historical dimension to the beach’s natural allure.
